Children

Authentic martial arts practice is a complete methodology for growing a human that is strong, centered, compassionate, natural, willing, balanced, alert and focused. It is a scaffold providing the necessary support and direction for a child to grow upwards towards their potential.

Traditionally Martial arts were taught to children much like our modern day school system. Parents would enroll their children for many years of instruction to build their bodies, minds and energies and produce outstanding people fit for society. In our modern times, with such enormous media and digital influence, such a practice can make an extraordinary difference to the direction a child’s life takes.

At Melbourne Aikido, we have two dedicated programs that give parents the very best Martial arts tuition from a dedicated professional team.

Sprout (3 - 7 Years)

There are tremendous benefits to introducing young children to the discipline of martial arts. Kids have a wealth of vibrant energy and in our highly acclaimed Sprout Program, we channel this energy to help children learn about movement, and lay the foundations for a healthy body and mind.  Martial arts is not a sport or form of entertainment: It is a powerful tool for transformation. We provide a traditional approach to class structure to ensure the integrity of the practice is maintained and children receive the correct foundation.

Sprout sessions include agility and conditioning drills, falling skills, team building activities and martial arts techniques. Classes are carefully structured to encourage children to develop focus and basic reasoning skills, understand boundaries, and learn how to work cooperatively in a team. As with all our programs, we teach students to be respectful, mindful and caring towards each other, their peers, parents, instructors and the dojo. This is the foundation on which all Martial arts practice rests.

Sprout classes run Monday, Wednesday & Thursday evenings from 4:00 – 4:45PM

Thrive (8 - 14 Years)

Children thrive in supportive, nurturing environments that foster independence and encourage practical skill development. Our Thrive Program has an educational focus and is specifically designed to provide the foundations for future training by teaching students the basic principles of martial arts including Aikido, Judo and Brazilian Jiu-jitsu.

Martial arts is not a sport or form of entertainment: It is a powerful tool for transformation. We provide a traditional approach to class structure to ensure the integrity of the practice is maintained and children receive the correct foundation.

In each class students will build strength and physical fitness, improve their coordination, learn technical skills and practice those skills in free play in a safe environment. Yogic breathing practices and Zen teachings are incorporated to provide children with new ways of centering themselves and understanding their environment.

Thrive classes run Monday – Friday, from 5:00 – 6:00PM and Saturday from 9:00 – 10:00AM
